SAT
OCT 13th -
Tonight I'm joined
by CHRIS LANE.
At 17 he was writing
a regular column
for the prestigious
Blues & Soul magazine
and soon made
his first trip
to Jamaica, spending
his eighteenth
birthday at the
newly built Black
Ark studio co-writing
a song with Lee
Scratch Perry
and Bob Marley,
and conducting
trail-blazing
interviews with
legendary reggae
artists and producers
such as Derrick
Harriott, Dennis
Brown and Coxsone
Dodd. In the 70s
he became co-owner
of Fashion Records
(the specialist
reggae retailer).
The eighties were
spent working
as producer, arranger,
engineer and musician,
not only for Fashion
but also for Maxi
Priest's first
Caution band,
as well as a wide
variety of other
producers at Marc
Angelo's Recording
Studio. Chris
also cut dub plates
for London's top
sound systems
in his own A-Class
Studio in the
basement of the
Dub Vendor shop
in Clapham Junction
and still found
time to compile
albums and write
sleeve notes for
companies such
as Trojan (Best
Of BeverleyÕs,
Melodica Melodies,
Upsetter Collection,
etc.) and Greensleeves
(Original Rockers).
Tonight at Coast
to Coast he will
be playing the
best in Ska, early
Reggae, Funk,
Soul and Boogaloo.
Expect a big crowd
as usual!
